This Privacy Policy explains how Truki handles your personal data when you use the Truki app, our website at truki.co.uk, and related services. Truki is an HGV navigation and route-planning app for UK drivers.

Truki is operated by Lewis Paine, trading as Truki, who is the data controller for your personal data. Truki is continually developed and improved, and our features and data practices may change over time; we will update this policy when we make material changes. This policy should be read alongside our Terms of Service.

1. Information we collect

Depending on how you use Truki, we may process the following categories of information:

Route requests and navigation data — origins, destinations, waypoints, planned routes and related journey information.
Vehicle profile information — dimensions, weight, vehicle type and other HGV profile settings you provide.
Location data (approximate or precise) — where required to calculate routes, provide guidance or support navigation features. See Location data.
Saved places and settings — delivery addresses, saved locations, drops and preferences you create in the app.
Account and sign-in information — if you sign in (for example with your Apple Account), register or contact support (for example name, email address and related details).
Subscription information — if you buy Truki Pro, we receive your subscription status from Apple. Your payment card details are handled by Apple and are not shared with us. See Subscriptions and payments.
App diagnostics and technical data — device type, app version, crash logs, performance data and similar technical information used to improve reliability.
Website usage data — basic technical information when you visit truki.co.uk, such as browser type, pages viewed and referral source.

2. How we use your information

We use information to:

Provide HGV-safe routing, vehicle-aware planning and multi-drop journey support.
Display navigation guidance and route-related warnings.
Provide and manage Truki Pro subscriptions and access to paid features.
Sync your drops, saved places and settings across your devices where you use iCloud.
Maintain, secure, debug and improve the app and website.
Respond to support requests and communicate about your account, purchases or service updates.
Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights, our users and the public.

3. Legal bases (UK GDPR)

Where UK GDPR applies, we rely on one or more of the following legal bases:

Contract — to provide the app, subscriptions and services you request.
Legitimate interests — to improve routing, maintain security, prevent abuse and develop the product, balanced against your rights.
Consent — where required, for example for location access or optional features. You can withdraw consent at any time.
Legal obligation — where we must comply with applicable law.

4. Location data

Because Truki is a navigation app, location is central to how it works. With your permission, we process approximate or precise location data to calculate routes, show your position on the map, provide turn-by-turn guidance and give route-related warnings.

You can grant or withdraw location access at any time in your device settings, although some features will not work without it. Where possible, location is processed on your device, and is only shared with routing providers to the extent needed to calculate a route.

5. Subscriptions and payments

If you buy a Truki Pro subscription through the App Store, your payment is processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

Apple provides us with the information we need to manage your subscription, such as whether it is active, renewed or cancelled. Purchases, renewals and refunds are subject to Apple’s terms. The subscription terms themselves are set out in our Terms of Service.

6. Apple sign-in and iCloud

Truki uses Apple services. If you sign in with your Apple Account, Apple shares limited information with us as described at the point of sign-in.

If you enable iCloud sync, your drops, saved places and settings are stored in your iCloud account and synced across your devices. Data held in iCloud is managed by Apple under Apple’s privacy policy. Diagnostics and crash reporting may also use Apple services.

7. Routing and third-party services

Routing is powered using third-party services, including the TomTom API and other road, mapping or restriction data providers. When you request a route, relevant journey and vehicle information may be sent to these providers so a route can be calculated.

Third-party providers process data under their own terms and privacy policies. We select providers that are appropriate for mapping and routing services, but we do not control their independent processing activities.

We may share information with:

Routing and mapping providers (including TomTom).
Apple — for sign-in, subscriptions, iCloud sync and diagnostics.
Hosting, analytics, crash reporting and customer support providers.
Professional advisers or authorities where required by law.

We do not sell your personal data.

9. International transfers

Some service providers may process data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we take steps intended to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, consistent with UK data protection requirements.

10. Retention

We keep information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including providing the service, improving routing, managing subscriptions, resolving disputes, meeting legal requirements and maintaining security. Retention periods may vary depending on the type of data and how it is used.

11. Cookies and local storage

Our website (truki.co.uk) is a simple site and does not use advertising or tracking cookies, and does not track you across other websites.

To display text, the site loads a web font from Google Fonts, which means your browser requests the font from Google’s servers; this may involve your IP address being processed by Google under its own privacy policy. Your browser may store small amounts of data for basic site functionality, which you can clear through your browser settings.

Within the app, your saved places, vehicle profiles and settings are stored on your device and, where you enable it, in your iCloud account.

12. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Your rights

Under UK data protection law, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to certain processing, to data portability where applicable, and to withdraw consent where we rely on it. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) in the UK (ico.org.uk).

14. Children

Truki is intended for professional and commercial drivers. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time — for example, to reflect new features, data practices or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page shows when we last made changes. For material changes, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention, for example through the app or the website. We encourage you to review this policy from time to time.
